Lost Island took Endureed’s engineered thatch and ran wild with it, wrapping the entryway’s soaring A-frame peaks, the Whalebone Grill’s swooping wave-like canopy, and a whole midway of candy-colored kiosks in roofing that’s as durable as it is delightfully over-the-top. Turns out landlocked Iowa can have its own tropical island mythology, right down to the carved wooden whale rising out of a fountain and totem-topped entry gates that make you forget you’re nowhere near an ocean.
