Cape Dutch architecture has always been a study in contrast: whitewashed walls carved into ornate, sculptural gables, set beneath a roofline that looks almost soft by comparison. Dean’s Grange brings that centuries-old South African vocabulary to the California coast, and it is the roof, finished in Endureed’s Kilimanjaro profile, that completes the illusion. The deep, dense brown thatch reads with the same weight and shadow as the reed roofs found on the original Constantia estates, curving gracefully over dormers and hips in a way few other materials could replicate.
