Get Roof Thatching Without A Steeply Pitched Roof

Roof Pitch

A natural thatch roof relies on a steeply pitched roof to prevent water leaks. Provided that the roof thatch tops a steeply pitched roof, the water won’t penetrate a natural thatched roof in good shape more than an inch deep. The absolute minimum pitch tolerable for a natural roof thatching is said to be 45 degrees, or a 12 pitch. That means that the height rises 12 inches vertically for every 12 inches of horizontal run. It’s also called a “12-in-12 pitch” and can be written “12:12.”

At any rate, that’s the minimum pitch to keep a building water tight when natural roof thatching sits atop it. Also, it’s more desirable for a 50 degrees or steeper pitch when using natural roof thatching. So, let’s say you want the thatch look, bit you don’t have a steeply pitched roof. Then what?

Endureed synthetic thatch is preferable for a number of reasons. Setting aside obvious advantages like mold resistance, pest resistance, and flame resistance, Endureed would still be the smartest choice for a thatch look on any roof. This is especially true if you don’t have a steeply pitched roof. Our synthetic thatch roofing system works for any roofs with a pitch 2:12 or greater. So, for every 12 horizontal feet, the roof must drop a mere two feet to install this synthetic thatch product. That makes an angle of just 9.5 degrees!
