Severe Hail Testing FMRC

When it comes to roofs, multiple technical organizations test hail resistance. According to an article based on a presentation delivered to the Roofing Industry Committee on Weather Issues, organizations involved with impact or hail testing procedures included:

  • The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)
  • The Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB)
  • The European General Agreement Board (EGAB)
  • The National Institute of Science & Technology (NIST)
  • Underwriters Laboratories (UL)
  • Factory Mutual Research Corporation (FMRC)

Factory Mutual Research Corporation (FMRC)

Endureed products were tested by FMRC. They’re an affiliate of Factory Mutual Global. They’re located in Massachusetts. So, FMRC primarily deals with fire, wind, and hail resistance of roofing assemblies. See, the goal of the testing is to lessen risks to insurance companies. Yet, the results mean a lot to consumers too.  Of course, consumers value durability tests!

Severe Hail Resistance

Two FMRC certifications are available for hail resistance:

  • Class 1 – SH (Severe Hail Resistance)
  • Class 2 – MH (Moderate Hail Resistance)

Most asphalt shingles can’t protect a structure as well. Hail damage to shingles sometimes hides years! See, the visual evidence isn’t always there. Yet, hail causes costly damage to roofs every year. Thankfully, our products are FMRC severe hail resistance tested.
