What Is A Standard Roof Pitch?

Many people want to know what the standard roof pitch on a building is. Look, there is no single standard roof pitch. See, many factors like roofing materials and climate determine the ideal range of pitches on specific buildings.

Pitch, angle, incline, slope are all terms used to describe the steepness of a roof. In the roofing, “pitch” is in terms of 12 inches. How many inches does the roof run vertically for every 12 inches it runs horizontally?

If the height rises two inches vertically for every 12 inches of horizontal run, it has a “2-in-12 pitch” or just a “2 pitch.”

Low Pitched Roofs

A pitch below 3.5 is considered a low-pitched roof. It’s pretty cheap to construct them, but you can’t use regular shingles. Actually, if your pitch is below 2, you can’t use our gorgeous synthetic thatch shingles either. Low pitches require a great deal of maintenance for more traditional materials as well. Roofs using an Endureed system with a pitch greater than 2 are virtually maintenance-free though.

Medium Pitched Roofs

Most roofs in America have pitches between 3.5 to 7 1/2. The average DIY roofer can handle safely walking upon medium pitched roofs.

Steep Pitched Roofs

A roof with a pitch above 7.5 might be too steep for the average person to walk upon. Safety equipment and experience is highly suggested. Still,. these roof pitches are efficient! Build up of snow, debris and ice is highly unlikely.

ARE YOU CONSIDERING SYNTHETIC THATCH?

Our roofing system works for any roofs with a pitch 2:12 or greater, as mentioned above. So, for every 12 horizontal feet, the roof must drop at least two feet to install this synthetic thatch product.

We’d be happy to show you how Endureed can provide you with the perfect synthetic thatch roofing for your home or business.
