HDPE

High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) makes a durable, synthetic thatch roofing material. For example, our Viva Series synthetic palm thatch roofing product is made of HDPE. So, Viva roofing products withstand long-term UV exposure, fire and storms. Plus, it passes the ASTM D3161 100 mph wind tests with no netting installed for protection.

We make this synthetic palm thatch from a high-grade HDPE compound.

So, what’s that?

High Density Polyethylene

HDPE is a strong, high density, moderately stiff plastic. Its highly crystalline structure makes it strong, rigid, incredibly flame resistant and much less affected by solvents. Sometimes, high density polyethylene is used to make cutting boards, milk cartons, and many other durable items.

Safety of HDPE Synthetic Thatch

Our Viva products pass difficult local fire department burn tests with ease. HDPE is incredibly safe as a roofing material. Some other synthetic thatch with the same fire rating can’t actually pass some local burn tests. Natural thatch goes up in flames even when treated! The treatment just slows the progress on natural thatch.

100% Recyclable

The Viva Series products are 100% recyclable. Plus, 40% of the material used in these shingles come as recycled materials.
